Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed Removes Dr. Adamu Sambo from Commissioner for Health Role Amid Major Administrative Restructuring

Bala Mohammed

In a surprising move, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed Dr. Adamu Sambo from his role as Commissioner for Health. This announcement was made on Monday during the ceremony where three new commissioners and the Chief Security Adviser were sworn in.

During the event, the governor also shared significant changes regarding local government representation.

According to Governor Mohammed, his administration will no longer appoint a commissioner specifically for the Ministry of Local Government. This shift is part of a broader strategy to align with recent local government legislation in the state.

Background and Recent Departures

This decision comes on the heels of recent developments. Former Commissioner for Local Government, Ahmed Jalam, tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this year.

Additionally, two other commissioners resigned to run for local government chairmanship positions, and the Chief Security Adviser was also dismissed.

Ensuring Representation and Efficiency

Governor Mohammed addressed these changes during a brief ceremony that doubled as a State Executive Council meeting.

He explained, “We are here to address the vacancies left by the voluntary retirement of three commissioners. This move ensures that every local government is represented in the cabinet, as mandated by the constitution.”

He further elaborated on the reasons behind these changes, stating, “We have decided to remove the former Commissioner for Health to streamline our operations, cut down on governance costs, and align with the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government reforms. Moving forward, there will be no Commissioner for Local Government.”
