Gabby Agbonlahor slams Chelsea’s controversial decision to leave out top players from Europa Conference League squad in Europe

In the world of football, team selections for major tournaments often spark debate. Recently, former Aston Villa captain Gabby Agbonlahor voiced his displeasure over Chelsea's decision to leave some of their big-name players out of their Europa Conference League squad.

Chelsea’s exclusion of key players like Cole Palmer, Wesley Fofana, and Romeo Lavia from their Europa Conference League lineup didn’t sit well with Agbonlahor. He believes it sends the wrong message about the competition

During a conversation on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor didn’t hold back in expressing his opinion. He described Chelsea’s decision as disrespectful, comparing it to how the club approaches other major European tournaments.

“They wouldn’t do that for the Europa League or the Champions League,” Agbonlahor remarked, suggesting that Chelsea seems to view the Conference League as less important.

Resting Players: A Sign of Prioritization?

Agbonlahor also pointed out that Chelsea might be intentionally resting players like Lavia and Fofana, who have struggled with injuries in the past.

He implied that Chelsea could be taking the Conference League lightly by choosing to field a weakened squad, all while focusing on bigger priorities like the Premier League.

In Agbonlahor’s view, this approach devalues the competition and reflects Chelsea's attitude that they shouldn’t be in the Europa Conference League to begin with.
