Crack Squad Arrests Five Suspected Kidnappers in Ewu Community, Delta State, and Seizes Illegal Weapons and Cash

In a recent dramatic turn of events, the Crack Squad, operating under Area Command in Ughelli, Delta State, has made significant headway in the fight against crime. 

On the early morning of September 12, 2024, at around 1:30 am, they swooped in on a notorious brothel and criminal hideout in Ewu Community.

During the raid, authorities seized a range of illegal items. Among the confiscated goods were one single-barrel gun, three homemade cut-to-size firearms, and a hefty cash sum of four hundred and fifty thousand naira (N450,000). 

The police also found a Moniepoint POS machine, an OPAY POS machine, and several wraps of what is suspected to be Indian hemp.

The operation led to the arrest of five individuals, all with criminal ties. 

The suspects include Dominic Uweru, known as Ovwolo, aged 48; Isaac Oghenerukevwe, also known as Plug, aged 34; Oviri Godstime, 25; Junior Sunday; and Efedeki Adjovo. 

According to SP Bright Edafe, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects have confessed to a series of armed robberies and kidnappings in the Ughelli area and beyond. 

Notably, they admitted to the kidnapping of a 70-year-old woman on September 8, 2024. 

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of seven million, nine hundred thousand naira (N7,900,000), which was paid on September 10, 2024, before the woman was released.

SP Edafe confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and that investigations are ongoing.

The crackdown has been hailed as a major success in the ongoing battle against organized crime in the region.
