Carol Vorderman Sells Her Seaside Apartment in Pembrokeshire After Council Tax Soars by 200 Percent

Carol Vorderman

In a surprising twist, Carol Vorderman has transitioned from a beloved TV host to an outspoken supporter of Labour.

Her shift in political allegiance has garnered attention, but it seems she's also caught in the crosshairs of Labour's crackdown on second home ownership.

Vorderman recently sold her luxurious apartment in Wales after Pembrokeshire Council decided to triple her council tax, implementing a staggering 200 percent increase starting this April.

This hike pushed her annual bill from around £1,700 to over £5,000 for what she once called her "forever home."

The seaside apartment in Solva sold quickly, just days after hitting the market, with an asking price of £450,000, according to the estate agent's website.

Addressing Housing Issues

This sale comes amid a broader push across the country to increase council tax rates.

The aim is to make more properties available for local residents who are struggling to enter the housing market, especially in popular tourist areas.

In Solva, the increase has led to an uptick in second homes on the market.

Interestingly, Vorderman's apartment is part of a block of four holiday rentals, which may not be suitable for a young couple looking for affordable housing.

Vorderman, known for her role on *Countdown*, has recently made headlines for her vigorous online criticism of Tory ministers, alongside her vocal support for Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

Her transition from a friendly TV personality to a political warrior has been quite remarkable.

In fact, she once collaborated with former Prime Minister David Cameron on a math task force, even sharing a light-hearted snowball fight with him in 2009.

A Dream Home Turned Memory

The two-bedroom apartment with stunning sea views over St Bride's Bay was purchased less than three years ago.

At that time, Vorderman expressed her hopes of retiring there, posting on Instagram how she felt "in love" with the place.

She even had whimsical thoughts about her funeral, envisioning a Viking raft lowered into the Solva harbour.

Marketed by the Country Living Group as one of the finest properties in Solva, her apartment features breathtaking sea views year-round.

With a spacious open-plan reception area and bedrooms opening onto terraced balconies overlooking the bay, it's no wonder it drew attention.

However, locals have noted a significant departure of second homeowners following the steep council tax increase.

In July, there were 135 second homes for sale in the area, a dramatic rise from just 38 the previous year.

A representative for Vorderman, who originally hails from North Wales but now resides in Bristol, has been contacted for further comments regarding the sale.
