Vice President Kashim Shettima recently highlighted the pivotal role of Nigeria's capital market in achieving the ambitious goal of a trillion-dollar economy set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We're living in an age where knowledge is key. Without the right skills, progress will be slow.
The capital market is essential in driving us toward this trillion-dollar target.
It’s not just about numbers; it’s about the quality and expertise you bring,” Shettima remarked.
This statement came during a visit from the executive members of the Association of Capital Market Academics of Nigeria (ACMAN), led by President Prof. Uche Uwaleke, to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.
Shettima praised the contributions of these capital market experts and stressed their role in the nation’s economic transformation.
“We have the talent and resources, but we need strong leadership to guide us through,” he said.
“Your association’s collaboration is crucial in developing effective solutions for our nation’s challenges.”
He also pointed out that Nigeria's success would impact the entire continent.
“Nigeria's trajectory influences Africa's future.
We bear a significant responsibility to make our continent thrive. I appreciate your support for our administration,” Shettima added.
Prof. Uche Uwaleke, President of ACMAN, explained that their visit was to express support for President Tinubu’s fiscal reforms.
The association, which includes top academics specializing in financial markets, aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
“Today, we're connecting with industry leaders to enhance the relationship between academia and practice,” Uwaleke said.
In recognition of his contributions as Chairman of the National Economic Council, ACMAN awarded Vice President Shettima its highest membership honor.
“We’ve decided to confer upon Vice President Kashim Shettima the prestigious Fellowship of Capital Market Academics,” Uwaleke announced.
The decision, made unanimously at ACMAN’s latest conference, reflects Shettima’s significant role in economic policy.
“We look forward to your inaugural lecture, which is an important part of receiving this award,” Uwaleke concluded.
