A heart-wrenching case unfolded in court today as a young man faced serious charges for a shocking act of violence at the Notting Hill Carnival.
Shakiel Thibou, aged 20, is accused of the tragic stabbing death of Cher Maximen, a 32-year-old mother, in front of her three-year-old daughter during the 'Family Day' celebrations on August 25.
Court Appearance and Charges
Thibou appeared before the Old Bailey today along with his brothers, Sheldon, 24, and Shaeim, 21. Shakiel faces charges including murder, carrying a knife, and violent disorder.
His siblings are also in legal trouble; Sheldon is charged with violent disorder and possessing a stun gun, while Shaeim is charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker.
Details of the Alleged Attack
According to the prosecution, Shakiel Thibou allegedly committed the fatal stabbing while attempting to attack another man with a machete.
Prosecutor Alistair Richardson detailed that Cher Maximen, who was at the carnival with her friends and young daughter, suffered severe injuries and went into cardiac arrest.
She was rushed to St Mary's Hospital where she underwent two major surgeries, but despite the medical efforts, she passed away on August 31 due to her injuries.
Legal Proceedings and Future Dates
In today’s court session, Thibou appeared via video link from HMP Belmarsh, while his brother Sheldon appeared from HMP Wandsworth.
Judge Mark Lucraft, KC, the Recorder of London, has remanded them in custody.
A plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for November 28, with a provisional trial date set for February 24.
